Off Beat - I'm Fed Up

I don't know what this is, who Alizee is, how she ever got to be as popular as she is, and why she doesn't seem to own any regular clothes. But the whole package made me laugh. The lip-syncing, the lyrics, the little nymph/Lolita act...well you get the picture. And, hey, It's a catchy tune!

Alizee is from France and apparently she's had quite the international hit with I'm Fed Up. Here she sings the French version (with subtitles), J'en ai marre. Boy, I love the French people.

Bubbles and water
Legs up for hours
My goldfish is under me
To bathe for hours
Makes my mouth water
I’m “foamely” ecstatic

It’s not a problem
I lazy ‘round
Bubbly and stubborn
I lazy ‘round
Melon and water
Is just a dream
It makes me wonder
Is it a “sin” ?

Bubbles and water
Legs up for hours
“Bombs”, you keep away from me!
Today lying low
Twisting up my toes
I swim in such harmony
So what bothers me:

Chorus :
I’m fed up with loneliness
With my uncle overstressed
Fumbling, crawling for something
That never shows, just a dream.
I’m fed up with creeps crying
Over the past, such a sin
Not to be cool, but a fool
If I could mess up their rules.
I’m fed up with your complaints
Baby, well I’m not a saint!
Fed up with the rain, the plane…
That makes me throw up again.
I’m fed up with all cynics
Bathing caps and all critics
I’m fed up with being
fed up! Poor me !

Bubbles and water
Legs up for hours
My goldfish still under me!
Delight of pleasures
Aquatic treasures
A place out of misery, my fantasy

  3. The lyrics are as hysterical as is the rest of the package. Sorry, gimme The Who or Rush - anything but this. Did the French ever produce a classic rock band? *thinking, thinking*...NO, I don't believe they did.

  4. The French were oddly unique, musically, going in a bit of a different direction. They were big into international chansonniers, a genre exported to Quebec. For a giggle just google Johnny Hallyday, France's answer to Elvis. Don't forget France gave us Vangelis and Jean-Luc Ponty!

    1. Vangelis is Greek. And the French gave you Jean-Philippe Rameau, Georges Bizet, Nicolas Siret, Jacques-Martin Hotteterre, Pierre-Claude Foucquet, Jean-Marie Leclair, and the list is endless (Elvis? Really?)

  5. Sorry, but we don't have the right word for justify that...In France, like in others countries in Europe, actually quality is not the priority. Lot of people in France really love your music. So you don't have a Georges Brassens, or Barbara, or Férré, or Jacques Brel...and many others. It's difficult in France to follow after these greats writters & interprets. Yes, the response is Indie band...singing in english...we are Unique for that!

  6. KIM NOVAK: You're quite right. That's why I was saying France is unique in that way. It's a whole other world of musique. Ad I don't think Alizee is anywhere near the same category of artists.

  7. That picture of Alizée is a photoshopped image.
I am quite familiar with Alizée, as a fan. The sailor suit she wears in that video does not show nearly the "cheek" shown in this picture, or the lack of covering on top as this picture portrays.
Alizée is actually quite conservative. Mylene Farmer, one of her business producers and song writers during this period, was the one who had Alizée dress in the sailor suit.
The idiot who posted the picture above is just trying to stir things up.

  9. It might also be worth mentioning that this is a translation (not even a literal one) of a french song, the lyrics in french are better

  10. Anon/Anon: No, my dating days are long behind me. Speaking of which, I'll take your word for it her's is photo-shopped.

On your second point, It's an odd little tune, yet catchy, that proved popular in French in France as well as in English internationally. Go figure.
